Pinewood Derby is a Cornerstone classic and Jr. Youth is bringing it back! 
Here is a bit of a background on Pinewood Derby races: 
-It is a wood car racing event (driverless mini cars made out of pine wood) 
-It is often done as an adult and child partnership 
-There are specific dimensions and characteristics that the car must abide by to compete
-There is a race to see which derby car is the fastest

This fall, Cornerstone Jr. Youth will host 3 different "Creation Days" and 1 "Race Day" for our Pinewood Derby event. This is outside our regular Jr. Youth programming and sign-up is optional, although all Jr. Youth and their parents are encouraged to come to the "Race Day" that will be taking place as a regular Jr. Youth event. At this particular event, we will race the cars, declare a winner, and enjoy some BBQ together. 

To register, the youth needs to be in either Grade 7 or 8 and must be accompanied by an adult (parent, guardian, family friend, etc.) that will be there for them for each Creation Night in helping to design and build the car. Each adult-youth duo will be one team where they will be creating one car together. Jr. Youth leaders will be present to help and assist. There will also be a $20 registration fee to cover the cost of supplies and race day activities. 

Cornerstone Jr. Youth leaders will be providing all of the supplies to build a basic derby car (wheels, axel, wooden block, etc). Leaders will also bring some basic tools with them including sandpaper, tape measure, hammers, drill, clamps, etc, but feel free to bring anything you would like as tools will be limited.

Here are the dates and details for each event: 
September 12th (7-9 pm) - Creation Day #1 - Design on paper and begin to cut the wood
September 19th(7-9 pm) - Creation Day #2 - Cut and paint the wood 
September 26th(7-9 pm) - Creation Day #3 - Assemble car and last-minute design alterations  
September 29th(6-8 pm) - Race Day - all Jr. Youth and their parents are invited to the race where we will have a BBQ together and cheer on our friends
**You are free to take the car home each week and work on it together between Creation Days.
